Most of you probably know that we use My Job Chart in our home and I am very happy with it. We have used it for a little over 3 months now and so far, it is still the best system I have used to train our children in getting their daily tasks done such as brushing their teeth, combing their hair and getting dressed. It also helps in training them to help around the home with things like laundry, dishes or dusting.
I've even been known to add "chores" like handwriting and spelling on our oldest son's list as an extra incentive for him to get it done (hopefully without complaining!)
After three months of use, My Job Chart is a smooth operation around here!
Oh, and did I mention that it's free? I love free stuff--especially when it helps things run more smoothly around our home! Who wouldn't?
I wanted to let you know about the newest feature to My Job Chart. As you may know, My Job Chart has worked with ING Direct Bank in giving you the option to open Kids Savings Accounts without fees and minimum balances for your child.
This allows you to easily transfer money so your child will learn to save money as well. (Honestly, I had forgotten about this feature, but we decided to go ahead and do this because it's the simplest way to help our children save their money. Plus when you open the account they automatically give you a $20 deposit! Use promo code JOB4)
Now ING Direct Bank has added a Direct Money Debit Card for children ages 9 and up. There are no fees, no minimums and as a parent you get a text message every time your kid uses the card to tell you where they spent the money and how much.
Our children aren't old enough to use this feature, but it sure sounds like it would provide a good tutorial for teaching your children financial responsibility!
With My Job Chart, your children accumulate points based on the chores that have been completed and then divide those points up into Spend, Save and Share categories. (1,000 points equals $10 on the card.) Of course, you do not need to use the MONEY Debit card offered by ING Direct, but it is a great option for those of you with older children. The debit card can be used anywhere MasterCard is accepted.
