http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HRL7UYE/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00HRL7UYE&linkCode=as2&tag=purposehome09-20&linkId=ZKVD4XTATIRMYNW3

What if you could start teaching your little one to use the potty before their first birthday?

The day has finally come for me to announce the launch of my first eBook! I thought it might be fun to write an eBook sharing how we taught our children to start using the potty before their first birthday with a natural, stress free method.

In my eBook, I share how to start your child on the potty around 10-12 months of age, how to transition to underwear, what to do for nap time and bed time, tips for traveling with a potty trainer, helpful tools for potty training and more.

Early Potty Teaching: A Natural and Gentle Way to Potty Train Your Little One is available for only $3.99. Click on the button below to get yours today.

And be sure to check out the Reader Review below!

"This ebook is an amazing resource for parents (and even caregivers); whether you have already potty trained an older sibling or are starting out with your first, this ebook offers a fresh, gentle, and natural approach to potty training your child and doing it earlier than traditional methods! One thing I love most about this ebook is how EASY and QUICK it is to read and then put into practice. I also LOVE how practical it is, with lots of little tips that make a big difference and makes the potty learning process smoother and less stressful. This is a wonderful alternative to waiting until your child is older and then having a "battle of wills" surrounding potty training. No candy, toys or other rewards necessary. This approach helps your child learn potty habits much like any other natural habit. I highly recommend this book to every parent wanting to know how to help their child learn to use the potty in a more gentle and natural way." --Bethany S.

GoGreen Diapers Review

What are GoGreen  Diapers?

I discovered the WAHM-operated business of GoGreen Diapers one day while searching the internet for cloth diaper companies. After checking out their site, I figured they would be a great fit with our Green Resolutions Blog Hop . I'm happy to have found such a great diaper at an amazing cost!
Our Experience with GoGreen Diapers

I have never made the complete and exclusive dive into cloth diapering. It's been more of a process for me. At this stage of the game, our son is 28 months old and I don't put him in diapers during the day anymore because he's potty trained.

However, he definitely still wears a diaper for naps and bedtime so we still need diapers around our house. One of my hesitations about using cloth diapers at night was the fear that my son would feel wet and wake up in the night (I did NOT want to risk missing sleep over that!) and I was also afraid he would leak through a cloth diaper if worn over night.

Recently I was getting our son's pajamas on earlier than usual and put his Champ diaper on. I planned to switch him to a disposable right before bedtime but...forgot to.

However, he did not wake up in the night from feeling wet. Nor did he leak through after being in his diaper for about 12 hours.  He definitely smelled wet when he got up the next morning, but there were no leaks!

I'm not the only one who has had great success with Champ diapers. You can read other moms' testimonials here.

What are the Diapers Made Of?

"The exterior of the diapers are made of a 100% polyester knit or microvelour with a thin, flexible water-proof polyurethane laminate on the inside (PUL). Inside, the diapers are lined with soft suedecloth or fleece, which is gentle against your baby's skin and feels dry since moisture is pulled through into the pocket by the microfiber inserts. Each diaper comes with a super-absorbent insert that is made from 3 layers of microfiber terry-cloth." source (GoGreen does not carry any organic diapers if that is something you use exclusively. This is not an issue for me, even though I do prefer organic.)

How Are They Made?
Also, because of their design, there is no need to remove the insert from the diaper before washing. It simply self-agitates out in the wash cycle. Additionally, "Dual Gussets™ Technology provide unbeatable leak protection." source The diaper also has a waterproof outer material so there is no need for an additional cover.

Are there Sales?
Even though these diapers are already at a great price, you can check out their sale page as well. (To think I spent $10 on a couple used cloth diapers at a Mom2Mom sale when I could have spent $10 on a brand new one from GoGreen!)

What I Think About GoGreen

I love that they are very reasonably priced (around $9.99-$15.00!!) and that they are absorbent enough even for night-time use. They also have a super soft insert that is comfortable for our son to wear.

GoGreen also has some really cute patterns available. Here's a cute one!

GoGreen also offers the removable Adapt-a-snap™ which easily attaches to any snap diaper with two rows of 10 waist snaps with standard 1-inch spacing. This allows you to expand the size of your diaper as needed. (Their standard diapers fit approximately 8-35+ lbs, and their Champ diapers fit newborn-45+ lbs.!)

My only drawback to the GoGreen Diapers is that I wish there was a greater selection of them made in the USA. Their Mud Butt for GoGreen diapers are, however, made by WAHMs in the USA.

If you are looking for a great-priced diaper that actually works, then the Champ is your best bet! Enter to win one here.

Super Skivvies Review and Giveaway!

As part of the Green Resolutions Blog Hop I'm thrilled to introduce Steph from Super Skivvies to you. I have had the privilege of featuring Steph before, so you may or may not know that I'm a big fan of Super Skivvies!

What Are Super Skivvies?

Super Skivvies are convertible training pants for your potty training little one. They are very well made, cute and ingenious (because you simply remove the insert once your child is potty trained and then you have a regular pair of undies!) To say the least, I've been very pleased with the quality of these trainers!

How Will Super Skivvies Save Me Money?

The cost savings on using trainers like these instead of something like pull-ups is substantial. Steph even gives you a break down here. And honestly, I can't even use pull-ups with my youngest because he is allergic to disposable diapers and pull-ups.

It's nice to have an option that's easy on the pocketbook and provides comfortable coverage for my son.

How Are Super Skivvies Better than the Typical Store Brand Trainer?

Super Skivvies are much more fitted and secure. I've noticed that when using some of the  store brands, especially on my younger potty trainers that there is a gap "down there" and the child is not completely covered. This is a problem because it's not going to hold an accident in as well, nor does it give the child the proper coverage they deserve.

Besides that, store brands are made of 100% cotton which is not nearly as absorbent as Bamboo is. (More on that later!)

And I've bet you've never seen a trainer in a boxer brief style. I know I haven't, but it won't be long and Steph will be offering these as well!

Another thoughtful feature about Super Skivvies is that the tag is sewn on the outside so as to not cause irritation to your child. This impressed me because it means Steph has put a lot of thought into her product.

One more thing that puts these a step above the store brand is that they come in smaller sizes than you can find at the store. I started potty training my younger two at a much younger age than my oldest (12 months) so I needed something that was smaller. Super Skivvies comes in sizes 1-2T on up to 4-5T so all your size needs are met!

What Are Super Skivvies Made From?

Super Skivvies feature one layer of soft 100% cotton interlock in the body, a rayon (from bamboo)/organic cotton velour liner in the crotch area, 100% cotton interlock waist and thigh bands, and no-roll elastic encased in the waist." (The extra wide waist band makes it easier for my son to pull his own trainers up and down when going to the bathroom.)

The "removable insert consists of three layers of rayon (from bamboo) and organic cotton fleece." source

As mentioned, included with your Super Skivvies "is a removable insert consisting of three layers: rayon (from bamboo) and organic cotton fleece. Just tuck the insert into the crotch lining and your undies are trainers! Super Skivvies are not an alternative to diapers. Including the insert, there are five layers of protection. Enough to contain a single accident.

Did you know that Bamboo is 300% MORE ABSORBENT than cotton? That means less bulkiness, yet with extra absorbency. With that being the case, it will help your child transition into the feeling of wearing real underwear rather than a diaper.

Here are some interesting facts about Bamboo:

-It is grown without the use of pesticides or fertilizers

-It is 300% more absorbent than cotton (bamboo becomes more absorbent with each washing!)
-Biodegradable
-Breathable
-Hypo-allergenic (perfect for my sensitive little guy)
-Antimicrobial (LOVE this about it!)
-Moisture wicking

Where Can I Get Super Skivvies?

Due to high demand, Steph has recently opened up a new shop (www.superskivvies.biz) and has transitioned her Etsy shop into her outlet shop. I'm proud to mention that these are also made in the USA...Kirkland, Washington to be exact. :)
Be sure to visit Super Skivvies on Facebook and Twitter too for updates and discount codes!

Potty Training Tips for Traveling

I should have included this post during my Bye-Bye Diaper event, but I didn't think about it until....I started planning for our own family vacation that is coming up in just a few short days.

I thought I'd share a few tips for traveling with your potty trainer and if you have any tips to share as well, please do so in the comment section. I'd love to hear them (especially before I leave bright and early Friday morning!) :)

First of all, we of course bring the potty seat with us. That way we can pull over on the side of a non-busy road if need be. Plus, even if there is an out house there is no way my little ones are going to cooperate by going in one of those nasty things. I could barely get my poor 5 year old to go in one last year without gagging and crying. Thankfully if we were in the middle of nowhere he could take care of business in the woods. :) Not so easy for my daughter (3 1/2) so I'm sure she'll be resorting to the potty seat this year as well.

The first year I did a road trip with a potty trainer, I think my husband thought I was a little weird, but trust me, he was glad I did what I did! I brought a bucket (with a lid) of water with us (or an empty milk jug). That way, if we had to make a stop, I could quickly rinse the potty seat out with some water.

I also make sure I bring a roll of toilet paper, hand sanitizer, flushable wipes (not that I'll be flushing them alongside the road, but it helps make wiping eaiser if need be. Sorry if t.m.i!), Lysol or a spray bottle with vinegar in it, and plastic grocery bags to dispose of any "wiping products." I then tie up the bag and and stick it in the very back of the vehicle just in case it might have an odor (although what can be dumped, is dumped. I just don't want to litter with the paper products.) Ok is this a gross post or what? I'm just keeping it real I guess!

Since my current potty trainer is so young (20 mths) I'll just keep him in diapers while we're traveling, but in the past I've used pull-ups for older children. And while we're at the hotel I'll of course have him in his Super Skivvies or Envibum. :) I do hope that we can stay on track with our diaper training since our schedule will be so altered, but I'm not worried about it.

That's my plan of action for our 9 hour road trip on Friday. Hopefully we'll have a trouble-free trip! :)

Don't forget to share your "potty training while traveling" tips in the comments section!  Maybe some of you have flown with potty trainers and have some tips that you could share.

Super Skivvies Day-Time Training Pants Review and Giveaway!

I recently learned about Super Skivvies and was super happy that Steph, founder of Super Skivvies, wanted to participate in our Bye-Bye Diaper event!

Steph sent me a pair of choo choo train Super Skivvies for Caleb to try. I think they are super cute! Some things I noticed right away upon opening our package was that Steph packed the Skivvies nicely and even added some little stickers in the bag for Caleb. She also included a code for 10% off my next order.

Another thoughtful feature I noticed right away is that the tag on the Super Skivvies is sewn on the outside so as to not cause irritation on your child. This impressed me because it means Steph has put a lot of thought into her product.

Something else that caught my attention was the liner. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the liner in the crotch. INCREDIBLY soft! The liners are made from rayon (from bamboo) and organic cotton velour. You'll probably be jealous you don't have a pair of these to wear. :)

Included with your Super Skivvies "is a removable insert consisting of three layers: rayon (from bamboo) and organic cotton fleece. Just tuck the insert into the crotch lining and your undies are trainers! Super Skivvies are not an alternative to diapers. Including the insert, there are five layers of protection. Enough to contain a single accident."

5 Layer Super Inserts Only $4!

Another great thing I liked about these skivvies is the extra insert I mentioned above. This is great because it's like two pairs of underwear in one. One for while your child is potty training and another for when your child is ready for straight undies. I think this is brilliant!

Prior to trying Super Skivvies, I had never heard of using Bamboo in Day Time Training Pants, but I like what I know now! Here are some facts I learned about Bamboo:

-It is grown without the use of pesticides or fertilizers
-It is 300% more absorbent than cotton (bamboo becomes more absorbent with each washing!)
-Biodegradable
-Breathable
-Hypo-allergenic (perfect for my sensitive little guy)
-Antimicrobial (LOVE this about it!)
-Moisture wicking

Sounds like the perfect material for the inside of little skivvies, don't you think??

These daytime trainers are not waterproof, which is great, because as I mentioned previously in my potty training post you WANT your child to feel when he/she is wet. (and YOU want to know too!) Another awesome feature is that they fit my 20 month old pefectly in the crotch (He's wearing the 2T-3T). When I have bought the Gerber brand 2T-3T they are always saggy in the crotch and I don't think that is as effective to my child feeling wet as these are. Overall, I have to say this is a GREAT product and very well made! LOVE THEM! :)

I want to show you some pictures of my little guy in his Super Skivvies. He sure was enjoying making it hard for me to take a decent picture. Goofy kid!

In case you're interested, Super Skivvies run $18/pair and the organic variety are $23. If you have any questions, you can contact Steph at contact@superskivvies.biz or check out her website! I know that might seem a little pricey initially, but if you go here, Steph gives a breakdown in what it would cost if you used disposable training pants versus Super Skivvies. Besides, you can reuse these with your other children which would continue to break down the initial investment. Something to think about!

I'm sure you're excited to know that, of course, I have another giveaway!

Steph from Super Skivvies is giving one winner a Super Skivvies of their choice (size and print from in-stock only) and one Super Insert.

Elimination Communication

Mama Chocolate
I shared with you earlier this week my experiences with potty training our three children and I hope they were helpful to you. Today I want to include a post about Elimination Communication (EC) in our Bye-Bye Diaper event because I feel it's something that some readers may be interested in pursuing with their baby. As you will read shortly, EC is usually started from birth, whereas potty training usually comes much later.

I do not have any experience with EC. To be honest, I'd never even heard of it before until my friend Bethany told me about it! I asked her to share her experience with EC with you. I realize it's not for everybody, but I will say, it seems like Bethany has had a very positive experience with it!

Here is what she writes:

"According to DiaperFreeBaby.org, 'Elimination Communication (EC) is NOT potty training. It is a gentle, natural, non-coercive process by which a baby, preferably beginning in early infancy, learns with the loving assistance of parents and caregivers to communicate about and address his or her elimination needs. This practice makes conventional potty training unnecessary.'"

The first time I heard about EC, I thought those mothers were NUTS!

I thought they were overachievers and were forcing their babies to potty train early. “How cruel and unnatural to potty train so early!” I had thought.

Then years later, after reading Ingrid Bauer’s "Diaper Free", I realized that I had it backwards. Babies are born with the ability to communicate their elimination needs, just like they can communicate when they are hungry, tired, cold, etc. And we, in America, train them to eliminate in a diaper and get used to that feeling of soiling themselves regularly and their signals of elimination disappear because they are never responded to. This made so much sense to me, but honestly I was still skeptical as to how it could really work.

So when my daughter was born, we weren’t resolved to DO Elimination Communication (or Natural Infant Hygiene as Ingrid Bauer calls it). Some people go sans diapers from the very beginning. We weren’t that ambitious.

We simply just communicated with our daughter when we noticed she was eliminating. When she pooped, we made eye contact with her and grunted and said “pooooop.” When she peed during a diaper change, we made the “sssss” sound. Then after a few weeks, when we noticed her passing gas or bearing down, we would put her on the potty and cue her to poop and she would go on her little potty – much to our surprise and thrill! Peeing on the potty might have been mere coincidence in the beginning. Babies pee SO frequently, so it was harder to pick up on her pee cues. But she seemed to understand the “ssss” cue and would pee on the potty several times a day.

Sadie at 5 weeks going #2 on the potty
When she was around 3 months old, something clicked. We noticed that she got loud and vocalized frequently throughout the day (not crying or fussing – just loud). When she got loud, we would check her diaper and she would be dry. 5 minutes later, we would check her again and she was WET. I don’t know why it took us awhile to figure out she was communicating that she had to pee! (I should mention that we used prefolds and covers in the beginning, so she felt her wetness immediately with cloth diapering.)

I am so thankful for EC because I really think it helped us understand what would have been “unexplained fussiness.” We knew she was screaming in her car seat, for example, because she needed to go to the bathroom. Or she was having a hard time falling asleep at night or waking up during the night, because she had to go to the bathroom!

By 4 months, all of her poops were on the potty. Around 6 months, we were SO thankful we didn’t have to rinse her poops out of her cloth diapers when she started solids. That seems like a messy job!

Potty Break on the Go
At 10 months, she hadn’t pooped in her diaper in months and months. She gained our attention by fussing or crawling over to us and making eye contact. We knew she was communicating that she had to go by the look she gave us.

As far as peeing goes, we had good days and not so good days. We’ve started going “diaper free” more often and catching a lot more pees. Maybe we’d been giving her mixed and/or confusing signals by putting her in a diaper and not always responding to cues or being available to respond to her cues.
It’s easy to get distracted with a phone call or making dinner when we’re at home. When we are in public, we were, and are, in total “kahoots” with each other and she NEVER wets her diaper. I love that feeling of closeness and that she TRUSTS me enough to hold her urine, knowing that I will respond to her and take her immediately to relieve herself.

Sadie just turned a year this weekend! She is now totally diaper free at home and on most outings. She wears cute little gerber undies or just pants. When she has to pee or poop, she gains our attention and usually does the sign for potty/toilet.

Honestly, Natural Infant Hygiene/EC requires more effort and attention, but you can’t think of it that way.

And you can’t think of it as potty training or looking for an end result or doing less cloth diapering laundry or saving money on diapers or being able to brag about your 6 month old not wearing a diaper – if any of those things are your goal, then you lose sight of what EC is all about. I’ve had to remind myself of this often!

EC is about communicating with your baby, pure and simple. It’s an instinctual and natural process. It’s about respecting your baby and responding to your baby’s needs to the best of your ability. I like to think of it as God created our babies with the ability to communicate their elimination needs; He didn’t create babies with Pampers and Huggies in mind! And he gave us as mothers and parents the ability to respond to and meet the needs of our smart babies!

I think diaperfreebaby.org is an excellent resource for anyone wanting to learn more about EC. I highly recommend it!

Bethany shared a cute little video of Sadie here if you're interested. =)

Thank you so much Bethany for sharing your experience with EC. You are doing a great job as a mommy!!! I hope this post was helpful to any readers who might be interested in pursuing EC. If you have any questions I'm sure Bethany would be more than happy to help.  (For example, where in the world did you find such teeny tiny potty for Sadie?? I've never seen anything like it before!) =)

BabyLegs Giveaway!!

I'm so excited to feature BabyLegs today! If you're not familiar with Babylegs, let me fill you in a bit. They are quite the hot product these days, let me tell you! They've been featured numerous times in various magazines and were even voted Best Baby Shower Gift by Pregnancy and Newborn Magazine!

BabyLegs began in April of 2005, when "a young mom was confronted with a diaper rash that just wouldn't quit. The rash needed some fresh air to heal, but she was also concerned about keeping her daughter warm. In a moment of inspiration, she snipped the feet off of a pair of socks and fitted her daughter from hip to ankle with a cool set of leg warmers. These leg warmers not only kept her daughter warm, but also protected her from the elements, made diaper changing and potty training easier, and protected her soft knees while crawling. With some fun designs and some grassroots marketing support, the functional and fashionable leg warmers that began as a solution to keep little legs warm quickly became much more."

BabyLegs has products for both boys and girls and offer leg warmers, tights for little girls (and footless ones, too!) and baby socks. They even offer a few organic varieties. They come in all colors and sizes--from newborn to preschoolers!

I could definitely see my Carlee in these flower leg warmers on the right! Love them!

I think of pair of these cow leg warmers would look great with Envibum's black and white Cloth Diaper!

And, here is my own cute little man sporting his BabyLegs on his Baby Bjorn potty seat!

I have to admit, when I first heard about the leg warmers I wondered if they really were for boys. But, they have some very cute boy styles and I love them for around the house while we're potty training. It makes things so much easier because I don't have to deal with snaps and pants and such. Just pull the undies down and put him on the potty. PLUS, it helps him be more independent. He is able to go over to the potty, pull down his underwear and sit on the potty. If he was wearing pants he wouldn't be able to do all that by himself. UPDATE: I am not kidding you...as I was writing this section of the post Caleb came out of the bathroom with his undies down and sure enough, he'd gone on the potty all by himself!!!! There was much squealing from his mother after that! =)

Caleb got to try the Hungry Alligators Leg Warmers (he loves the crocodiles on them!), a pair of the organic leg warmers, and a set each of the Swampfest socks and Caterpillar and Toadstool socks.  The legwarmers run $12 pair and the organic varieties are the same price! The socks are $10 for two pairs and come in sizes 0-12 months up to 4T. I tried two different sizes for caleb (18-14 months and 2T-4T). I think they might run a little small for him (he's 19 months) OR it could be because I dried them in the dryer. Oops! Other than that, they wash and wear nicely.  (BabyLegs recommends you lay the socks and leg warmers flat to dry.) I didn't notice any shrinking on his leg warmers so I'm guessing he just needed the 2T-4T size socks. The leg warmers didn't shrink and they're still as cute as ever!

Another nice feature about the BabyLegs socks is that they stay up and yet the elastic doesn't leave obnoxious marks around my baby's ankles. I so dislike a pair of socks that I have to either keep yanking up or that leave marks around chubby ankles! :) They also have little grippies on the soles of the feet which I also love in a pair of good baby socks!

As you browse Babylegs' site be sure to also check out the clearance section (You know I always love a good deal!) Plus, BabyLegs is currently having a huge Memorial Day Sale with warmers, tights and socks 30%-50% off!

I'm so glad my little guy has a couple pairs of the leg warmers for around the house while we're potty training. That way if it's a little chilly his legs will be covered but-wow!-so much easier to take him to the potty without having to peel off a bunch of clothes! Now I can just pull down his undies! Makes life much easier. Even if you're baby is still in diapers just think about how much easier it would be to change them with the leg warmers on!

Want to know some other great features about the BabyLegs legwarmers? They help protect your baby's little knees from rough surfaces while they are crawling around (I don't currently have a crawler but would have loved these for when we were outside on the sidewalks, etc.), they keep them warm when worn under pants in cold climates, especially when you pick your little one up to carry them outside and their pants always have that gap between their socks and pants. They also provide lightweight sun protection. Besides, they are seriously so cute.

And, here's for the REALLY great news. BabyLegs is offering an amazing $50 prize pack on my blog AND on Mama Chocolate's blog. That means you get double the chances to win!!
