If you are looking for a simple, yet fun format to teach your children about the importance of good health and wellness habits, then you'll want to check out Vintage Remedies for Kids by Jessie Hawkins.

I know I am really enjoying our copy! It is a great little book that can be used alongside your homeschool curriculum or simply as an instructional tool to help teach your children the importance of eating healthy.

"Little ones will learn how to choose healthy foods, how to prepare some fun and delicious snacks, how to establish prevention based habits, and how they can participate in your family's natural lifestyle." source

Geared towards ages 2-6 (although it would work with older children), this book is written in a child-friendly manner and teaches health and natural living.  However, if you have older children, Jessie offers a book for girls ages 7-13, a book for boys ages 7-13 and one for both boys and girls ages 7-13.

Vintage Remedies for Kids has 18 chapters (I try to cover about one per week) and includes topics such as: Natural Candy--Fruit, Foods that are not Real Foods, Vegetables-Keeping me Healthy, My Little Apothecary, Staying Healthy and more. Throughout the book there are interactive questions, recipes and activities. I'm really excited about working through this book with our children.

Here is a picture of our kids doing the activity for chapter 1--making homemade pizza.  :)

One of the many things that I like about this book is that it's nice to be able to present the information to my kids from someone else other than me. Sometimes hearing it from another source helps, and the interaction that Jessie has incorporated into each lesson is very helpful!

This book retails for $25 and may be purchased here. Also, be sure to go to Jessie's website. You're going to love learning more from this homeschooling mom! She offers various on-line courses (that I think would be great to take!) as well as various natural products.

Jessie also has a great little book called the kitchen herbal. It is very interesting and has some helpful tips and recipes to incorporate herbs in your cooking.

And, if you're looking for a nudge to help your family start eating real foodsign up here for her FREE 8 Weeks to Real Food Series. (I signed up because I know I can always use encouragement to keep feeding my family the right kind of food!)
