Dehydrated Pears

Dehydrated Pears

This past week was my first time dehydrating pears. In the past we've only done bananas, blueberries, strawberries and apples, but these are definitely worth doing again! The directions are so easy they're probably not worth posting about, but just in case you want a little guidance, here you go!

I bought 12 bosc pears for this, which means I completey filled my dehydrator two times. 1-2 pears never made it to the dehydrator because some little children decided they were hungry for a pear. I was happy to oblige.

Bosc pears are so sweet and since I loved the outcome when canning with them, I figured they'd be a good choice for dehydrating as well.

After running them under water and spritzing with my homemade produce wash, I started slicing them about 1/4" thick.

Thankfully we have a **new** food dehydrator my husband found at a garage sale last year and it works really well! I set it at 135 degrees and let it run until the pears were fairly crisp, yet still somewhat chewy. (about 15 hours) You'll just have to check yours periodically based on your food dehydrator and the texture you like.

The Finished Product

Here they are, ready for a hungry child at a moment's notice! I LOVE storing things in Mason Jars. They are so pretty and you can easily see what is in there.

What kind of things do you like to dehydrate?

Great idea. I think I'll try it. Nice mason jar idea too. Do you keep the dried pears in the refrig?

Good! :) I just leave them on the countertop. :)

I love Mason Jars, too. I don't have a dehydrator but have heard you can dehydrate fruit just by leaving it in the sun, I wonder if that is safe, though?
