Let's Get Organized with Clever Container PLUS a Giveaway!

Welcome to the Let's Get Organized Mini-Series here on Purposeful Homemaking! Over the next several days I will feature several companies that can help you get your home organized. I will also share some tips of what I have done in our home to utilize limited space and make things a bit more manageable.

To get us started, I'd like to introduce you to Karen DeClark, a Founding Consultant with the organization company called Clever Container.  Karen also owns a professional organizing company called KD Organizing where she helps individuals and small businesses take control of their surroundings, their time, their paper and their lives.

What I Reviewed

I reviewed the Curved Shelf Dividers from Clever Container and they come in a set of two. They are designed to help organize shirts, sweaters or pants in an orderly manner in the top of your closet by separating and supporting stacks of clothing. I reviewed the large size which retails for $17.95.

I think something like this is a great idea to help solve a really disorganized situation like this:

Closet Before--Eek!

Closet After

Unfortunately, the shelf in our closet broke a couple years ago so my husband built a sturdier one. However, it's out of 2x4's so the wood is too thick for the bottom part of the shelf divider to fit over. If it could, it would make it much more stable. Still, with the dividers nestled between the stacks of clothing it seems to be helping get the job done.

I know my linen closet would benefit from the smaller version of these shelf dividers as well! Overall, I think it's a great concept. Just measure your closet shelf before you order to make sure it will fit. :)

Clever Container offers numerous items to help get your home organized and more functional. It was hard to pick one item to review! Check out the online catalog here to see what you would love in your home. They have things that will help you get organized in the kitchen, bathroom, office, bedroom and even your car.

Organizing Tips for Small Spaces from Karen

Be Realistic. In a small home you only have so much space to work with. So remember, the more stuff you bring into your space, the more stress and frustration you could be adding to your life. Stuff also requires time and energy to maintain. How much time do you want to give to the maintenance of your stuff? Think of your small space as a blessing rather than a problem. You'll have more time to focus on what you love and enjoy.

Create Multi-Use Zones. Your space should serve you for the activity you have designated for that space. If your kids do their homework at the kitchen table, give up a cupboard or shelf to store homework supplies. If you are always doing the bills in the kitchen, set up a mini office station using a lidded box or bin so everything is handy. Include a wall calendar, an action file and a wall pocket and you now have a launching pad where papers can easily come and go.

Maximize Your Space. Use your vertical space. Install floor to ceiling shelving and don't forget the space above doors and windows. Use the inside of cupboards and behind doors to add hooks or clear pocket organizers. Closet organizers are a must and compression bags are great for out of season clothing and bedding.

Give Your Space Some Breathing Room. Give your shelves, closets and drawers some space. Although it may be tempting, do not pack things in tightly. You will be able to find what you are looking for quickly and it is easier to take the item out and put it back when you’re done. You will be more apt to maintain the space when it is not stuffed full.

One In, One Out Rule. You don't have the space to store anything that is not being used on a regular basis. When purchasing an item, be sure to let the old one go. Ask yourself before you bring an item home if you really need it, where will you keep it and does it serve you in your life today?

Edit, Edit and then Edit Some More. Keep a donation box handy and make it a habit to add to it when you come across clothes that no longer fit, toys that are no longer being used and kitchen gadgets that are gathering dust. Simplify your cleaning products to just a few that are multi-purpose. Get the family on board with the process of letting go of what they no longer are using to bless others.

Thanks, Karen for these great organizational tips! And to help get your home in
order, Karen is giving away a Stuff It from Clever Container in the Leopard print.

I almost never use my makeup because of it's out of sight in the linen closet (we have a VERY small bathroom!) The Stuff It is pretty enough to leave out on my dresser, so I'd use it to keep my makeup handy and hopefully remember to use it more.

I would use it to keep my make-up (what little I have) and rubber bands/hair clips in.

I would use it for pens, pencils, colored pencils, crayons, scissors, etc. along with small notebooks/notepads so I'd never have to search for these things in different places when we need them!

Living in a house with not a single coat closet or linen closet, we can use all the storage help we can get!
