Taking Inventory will Save You Money!

Saving money has become a necessity for a lot of people these days.

I have found that one of the easiest ways to save money is by using what I already have around the house. Profound, I know. :)

But, seriously, this will save you money!

First, get organized. Get rid of stuff you don't need and straighten up what you want to keep.  Do you know how many times peple buy something because they didn't know they already had that item? Well, I don't know the exact answer, but I'm sure it happens all the time! Just think of all the money you'll save if you're not buying extras of things around the house.

Once you get organized and you find you have duplicates, sell them at a garage sale, on ebay or give them away to someone in need!

One way to get organized is to create an inventory for your house. I currently have one for my freezer, deep freezer, makeup and health and beauty items (e.g. toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, etc.) I plan to do one for my paper products like toilet paper, paper towel, and cleaning products (which are getting fewere and fewer the more natural I get around here.) I keep a running list of my freezer inventories in my mother's manual so I can keep it accurate. The keep the health and beauty inventories right with those items.

By having an inventory I can do a quick check to see if I already have an item. If I'm getting low on it then I add it to my grocery list so that I don't get caught without it.
So, what do you think about this concept? Have you already done something like this? If so, what method do you use?

We go through our pantry once a month with a notebook to see what we're low on, what we didn't eat as much of the past month and what we ate faster than my grocery list was prepared for. At Christmas, all the things we had gotten and not really eaten that much (Josh found a special on canned green beans in Oct and bought 10 cans...) and gave them to food drive. Doing major grocery shopping only once a month saves us TONS of money!
