Desires of My Heart eBook Review

I was recently asked by Heather Bixler to review her new devotional eBook entitled, Desires of My Heart. It is based on Psalm 37:4 which says, “Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.”

In this heartfelt devotional, Heather challenges her readers with the question, "Do we really know what it means to delight in the Lord?" By sharing her personal struggles, she explores this topic by first addressing issues like pride and control. Heather challenges her readers with this thought, "With our pride comes control. When we are consumed with our need to protect our sin through pride, we also work to maintain control of our life."

The fact that Heather writes based on what she has learned from her own struggles gives her an angle of compassion and love rather than condemnation. Her openness is refreshing and encouraging.

I definitely took some notes as I read through this short devotional. I want to remember truths such as, "God is good all the time and He will use our brokenness to bring truth and glory into the lives of those who don't know Him." "Until we recognize the desires that compete with God in our life, we will never be able to move forward in living a life delighting in Him."  And, "If we are still living a life that isn't full of the Holy Spirit, then we aren't delighting ourself in the Lord."
