If Only...

I was thrilled when Kimberly from Mary and Martha contacted me about doing a review for her because one of the items I could choose from was a set of tea cups. I LOVE tea. I drink it every day and sometimes even twice a day so it was kind of a no brainer for me to pick those to review.

I was able to put them to good use the first day I got them because a lady from church came over to visit that evening and it was so nice to share a beautiful, inspirational cup of tea with her.

I love that these tea cups point me to one of my favorite verses of Scripture, Philippians 4:8 "...think on these things..." This verse is on the inside lip of the tea cup and on the outside is printed one of the things we are to think on. The set I have is "noble" and "true". The other set is "lovely" and "pure". All are such beautiful reminders to me of where my mind needs to be in this crazy, upside down world.

I usually start my day off with one of these tea cups. One of them is "Noble". It begs me to answer the question: Are my thoughts noble?

In other words, are they full of good character and not tearing people down...even in my mind? If my thoughts are noble, then my interactions with others with others will follow suit.

The other cup, "True", reminds me to think on only those things that are true. Do you realize how many thoughts bombard our thinking each day that are not true?

...If only I were beautiful

...If only I were more organized

...If only I made more money

...If only I were in shape

...If only I could be as outgoing as so and so

...If only I had more decorating talent

...If only...

As women, we are especially prone to thinking on things that aren't true and we have to constantly guard our minds from the battle of giving into thoughts that just aren't true.

What better way to start our day than to think on those things that are true....

...I am created in the image of God

...I do the best I can as a wife and mom

...I can trust God to provide my needs

...Good health is important but not the most important thing

...My personality was perfectly hand-crafted by the Creator of the Universe

...My talents are to serve God and others and I don't need to worry about anything else

When you look at the thousands of years that mankind has been on earth and you stop and realize that you and I were born during this time in history and for a specific purpose, it's empowering.

But if we're wasting our time thinking about things that are not true, noble, lovely or pure, we're not taking full advantage of the purpose of our existence.

Our lives are so incredibly brief, and yet...you and I are here, right now. Not a thousand years ago. Not a thousand years from now. You and I are tucked in our own little corner of the earth to share the Gospel with those around us because their lives and God's glory in them matter.

What better way to remind you of your purpose in life than these sweet, lovely tea cups. Think on these things...

Thank you I really needed that today. My mind is so full and overflowing that I can't think straight at times. I'm working night shifts this weekend and totally forgot to get my son organised and ready to go away for his scout camp this fri-sun!! As mum the family is looking to me to remind and organises and there's no excuse he could have been ready and then his dad could have taken him while I slept but as I've so much on my mind I totally forgot. It didn't even enter my head on thur or Friday morning!! At least my son doesn't seem to upset by missing it but I'm kickin myself and kinda cross that he and his dad need to take some responsibility too. But a cup of tea and to "think on these things" is such a good reminder. Not to listen to the lies in our head saying I'm not good enough and to take a step back and rest my mind and refocus on what's important. Thank you.

Aw, Janet! Try not to feel too bad. Besides, you never know why God didn't have him go, but I'm sure He has a reason. Try to rest in His sovereignty.

It's so hard when you feel like you have to be the one to keep the ship running--or at least asking/telling others what needs to be done....but I think that's kind of how men and women are wired differently. ;)

Praying you can get some rest and family time this weekend and that you won't let this bother you because you are working so hard already to take care of your family.

Hugs!

Becky

Really needed to read this today. Thank you for posting. The teacups are adorable btw. It's so much more fun to drink tea from a teacup instead of a big ole' mug! ;)

Becky,

I'm so glad God could use these words to encourage you. You are doing a great job as a mom of many!!

I LOVE these tea cups, too! And you're right---it is so much more fun to drink tea from a pretty little tea cup than a big ole' mug!! ;)

There's little more comforting than sitting down for morning devotionals in a quiet space with a warm cup of tea in hand. These beautiful teacups would be perfect inspiration!

I would love to win these to give to a tea drinking friend as a gift for Christmas. Money is tight this year due to impending job loss and I can't afford to buy gifts for friends this year.

I think the tea cups are a good "check yourself" to see if you are being the best you. I can see it on my desk and making me feel inspired. I'd like to start doing afternoon tea with my stepdaughter and these would be so fun.
