Happy Birthday sweet Caleb: It's an Owl Birthday Party!

Well, it's really hard to believe, but my youngest is 2! I love this little guy so much and am so blessed to be his Momma. He brings our family a lot of joy. He truly is a gift from the Lord, as all our children are.

In thinking about his birthday, I couldn't help remembering when he was first born. Here's a few pictures from when Caleb was "little". As you can probably tell from the pictures, a more accurate description would be, when he was "new". :)

Is this for real?! I might not think so, except it's me and I know it is! As you can see in the picture, It's 6:20 am and we're getting ready to head to the hospital.

(I was induced so that's why I don't look uncomfortable--yet!)

He arrived safe and sound and was a big 9' 5 oz! Dark hair like his Daddy!

Obviously this little guy's birthday comes in the fall and since we love this time of year around here, I decided to do a woodsy themed party for him. I settled specifically on the owl theme after finding this adorable owl package from La Petite Party Shoppe. I thought it was incredibly cute and it is even  available in an entire party package option. That makes it so easy to pull off a cute party with minimal work! I love, love, love the owl designs in this package!

The invitation I chose looks like this:

The mom and daughter team that make up La Petite Party Shoppe have awesome customer service and were very helpful by providing printing tips (i.e. which pound paper to print on depending on what it was I was printing, suggesting taking my own card stock to the print shop to save money, etc.).

Their tips were very helpful to me since I'd never done something like this before. The most economical option was to choose what I wanted to print from the party package and put it on a zip drive to take to my local print shop. For the invitations, I actually uploaded them to Walgreens (although now I know Costco is cheaper!) because I wanted them on photo paper. Everything else though I did at Staples.

These great ladies even put together the specific package for me that I wanted to print so that it was easier when I went to the print shop. (I love that I could just hand them the zip drive and say "This is what I would like printed please.") I told you their customer service was great! :)

To tie the theme in, I made an owl hair clip (or you can buy them from etsy) for each of the little girls and displayed them on a small branch. I also reused the tin plates and cloth napkins that I used for Carlee's cowgirl party and used newspaper for the tablecloth. The food was kept very simple and we only had snacks: Branches (pretzels), Owl S'mores, Nocturnal Punch, "Acorns", candy corn, and homemade banana cupcakes with homemade frosting. If you want to make Owl Pops, they are cute as well (although I did not have time to do them.)

I also used several candles and a lantern for decorating since it gets dark around 8pm these days! Of course we had a nice bonfire as well for s'more roasting (and to keep us warm since it was chilly!)

Now these cute little owls came from Memorable Favors. Aren't they adorable?? They come in a kit and you assemble them. Everything on the head was already glued together and the boxes were pre-creased so all I needed to do was fold the box up, glue the belly and head on and oh my! I just realized I forgot to glue their cute little feet on! Oops! Well, they're still pretty cute!! Here's a few more styles Memorable Favors offers:

 

These retail for $6.99 for 10 favor boxes. I filled them with dark chocolate hershey kisses. (Each child also took home a dark chocolate Hershey's bar with a cute candybar cover from La Petite Party Shoppe around it.) I think these owls are sooo cute and were such an easy and inexpensive party favor. I was also sent a detailed instruction sheet as well as links for easy assembly should I need them. (Which I didn't and that's saying a lot because I'm usually not good at this kind of stuff. If I can do it, you can too!!)
