Door to Door Organics (Plus a Coupon Code for $15 off your first box)

Have you heard of Door to Door Organics? It's an online grocery store that carries organic produce and grocery items that are delivered right to your door. Door to Door Organics is available in Colorado, Michigan, Chicago, Kansas City and the Tri-State area.

The basic idea behind Door to Door Organics is that weekly or bi-weekly you choose which size box of produce you would like delivered to your home. As you can see below, you can choose a bitty box ($23.99), a small box ($33.99) a medium box ($39.99) or a large box ($55.99). You can then choose if you want a mix of fruit and veggies, just fruit or just veggies.

To a certain degree you have the flexibility of choosing which produce you want in your box. For example, in the bitty box you would receive a list of produce similar to the one listed above. If you don't like Bell Peppers though, you have the option to sub it out for a different item.

There is also the option to purchase other groceries that you can add to your box. The various categories are pictured below. Each item has a price, as well as a description and size so that you can make an informed purchase.

Door to Door tries to make it as easy as possible for you in our hectic age to plan your meals and purchase good quality food to go along with your meal planning. That is why they offer a recipe section based on the items that are currently available.

Additionally, food items are labeled Non GMO when a concern, as well as where they are from.

What Do You Think?

So, the big question that I keep getting asked is, "How do their prices compare to those in the grocery store?"

Well, I can't say that I can give you a definitive answer on that because just like shopping in the store, you need to choose the items that are in season or on sale to save money. To a certain degree you have that option with Door to Door. However, I'm not sure that every produce item will actually be an in-season item in your box and as a result, you may pay more than if you waited until it was in season.

I will mention that there is always a sale section for you to choose from. I try to choose items from that section that I know I can make a meal out of.

You just have to do your homework and check the sale prices of other stores near you. Just be sure you're comparing apples to apples so to speak. For example, this particular week I can get organic blueberries on sale at my local store cheaper than I can get them from Door to Door. Next week my store may not have organic available though and it's nice to have the option of choosing organic from Door to Door.

Another example is the eggs I'm buying this week. I normally buy them from a local farm that is about 15 minutes away. It's not a place that I pass by frequently so it's not always convenient for me to get eggs from them.

This week though, I'm taking advantage of the eggs on sale from Door to Door for $3.79 per dozen. These eggs are cage-free and certified organic. The hens are fed a completely organic diet and are not only certified organic by the USDA but also by certified by SQF, American Humane, and Humane Farm Animal Care. Plus, they are hormone and antibiotic free. I am happy to pay $3.79 for that kind of quality egg and it's only .79 more per dozen than what I pay at the farm. Plus, I don't have to spend the gas money or time to get these eggs.

And, if money happens to be tight one week and you can't squeeze in your box order, no problem. You can just put it on hold until you're ready to place your order.

I decided to list some pros and cons for my own benefit when it comes to using a service like this. I've listed them below in hopes that they may help you make a decision as to whether or not Door to Door Organics will work for you.

Pros:

  • all organic
  • great option if you don't have access to good quality, organic food
  • convenient
  • items that aren't on sale in the grocery store might be on sale at Door to Door
  • you have the flexibility of choosing whether or not you want to place an order that week
  • who doesn't like having someone else do the grocery shopping???

Cons:
  • You will need to do your homework. Overall, I think it might be more pricey than the local grocery store, but you have to keep in mind that you are choosing organic items. I find that these are not always readily available at my local store and I have to drive to Whole Foods to get some of those items and I am not sure that Whole Foods is going to be cheaper than Door to Door. (Okay, so did this end up being a "pro" as well?) :)

Been using door to door for about a month now. Couldn't be happier, overall it is a little more expensive but I attribute that to the fact that everything we are buying now is organic and majority GMO free and that is more than worth the slight bump up on the grocery budget. The convenience, is great as it's one less errand to run over the weekend!
We also are eating healthier as we don't want anything to go to waste plus no slight of hand down the cookie isle anymore!
Overall couldn't be happier and highly recommend!
