What We Reviewed

I'm very excited that the TOS Crew members were the first to review the Dive Into Your Imagination DVDs! My children and I really enjoyed the one we reviewed entitled, Who Lives in the Sea?

Annie Crawley is both the producer and visionary behind these fun educational videos. They are available in both English and Spanish and are geared towards Pre-K through approximately 3rd grade. With each DVD, you have the option to also purchase the accompanying PDF Educator Guide.

Each DVD retails for $19.95. The Educator Guides are available as a printed version for $299 and include all 3 DVDs in the series. Or you may purchase them individually for  $69.95. However, Annie is generously giving our readers a great deal...

"As a special for the Homeschool Crew and The Old Schoolhouse Magazine and followers Annie Crawley of Dive Into Your Imagination, will gift you a set of PDFs with the purchase of the DVDs. When you place your DVD order, just let her know in the notes that you are a Homeschool Parent!" That is in addition to the
free shipping for the entire month of May and June with any order placed at www.AnnieCrawley.com/store.

Why These DVDs Were Created

"Our ocean is responsible for 70% of the oxygen our planet needs, holds 98% of our water, and 70% of people on our planet rely on the protein of the sea for their food. It is an easy connection, we need a healthy ocean in order for life on our planet to exist. Kids love dolphins, turtles, clownfish, sharks and all ocean animals.

Through my educational and entertaining presentations at schools, libraries, and events, everyone asked for more. I realized that kids are passionate about our ocean and if we could design educator guides to teach parents and teachers, we could get the ocean into your classrooms!

Together with a team of educators, we created these cross-curricular guides combining literacy, math, science, social studies, and geography with character education." --Annie Crawley

Besides the one we reviewed, there are other DVDs in this series entitled, What Makes A Fish, A Fish and Dive Into Diversity. Each of these DVDS has 8 main chapters and a couple of bonus tracks explaining scuba diving and production. For each of the chapters on the DVD, there is a corresponding chapter in the educator guide.

The educator guides have 6-7 activity stations per unit to share with your children. Both sets of guides, PreK-K and 1st-3rd Grades, contain age appropriate activities for your child. I'm always on the look out for evolutionary content when it comes to scientific material and I did not come across any (although thed Educator Guides are EXTENSIVE!). The only reference I was a little unsure about was the "Pod Almighty" activity in the Educator Guide. I wasn't sure if it was a play on words or not.

There is a wealth of information on the DVDs and Educator Guides. You could spend several months covering the information on the DVD in conjunction with the Educator Guide.

And, according to Annie, 90% of the Ocean is unexplored! Can you believe that? That really is incredible to me because just watching Who Lives in the Sea? I'm already impressed with God's diverse creation. To think that there are even more species yet to be discovered after all these years is a true testament to the handiwork of our great God.

Annie is passionate about making children and adults aware of how important our oceans are to our world. It is a good reminder to me that as a Christian, I am to be a good steward of the beautiful world that God has created for us. He has created it for our sustainment, but also for our enjoyment and it is to be taken care of.

One of my favorite passages of Scripture is from Isaiah 40 which talks about the greatness of God. It specifically deals with the ocean in verse 12 when asking, "Who else has held the oceans in his hand?"

Further down, the chapter concludes with these comforting thoughts: "Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint."

Yes, the God who made this incredible ocean that Annie so wonderfully teaches us about is the same God that cares about each and every one of us.

Here is a sample song from the DVDs. It is the Dive Into Your Imagination Theme song.

On a personal note, I want to thank Annie for putting together these incredible DVDs. Between the DVDs and the Educator Guides, there is enough information to keep you and your kids busy for hours! Here's a picture of two of our children working on coloring and crafting their dolphin from the Educator Guide.

I appreciate Annie's extensive work on the Educator Guides. She has passionately invested much time and effort into creating a phenomenal series. I only wish I could have reviewed them all!

Thank you for sharing this with me. I would love to teach my children more about the Ocean. I grew up in Florida and the beach was a huge part of my life. With the kids growing up in AZ they hardly get to see the Ocean. This would be a great addition to our home.
